So, I’m a devout Audi fan. Everybody knows that, but it’s getting close to the time where I need a new car. The A4 that I currently have is aging well, but I’d like to get a newer car. It needs to be able to impress clients, be affordable, be German, manual, economical to an extent and tuneable. That’s what leads me to the 128i, I’ve ridden in one and it wasn’t a bad experience at all. I’d like to keep a classic alongside a potential DD, but that really depends on my financial situation down the road.
Here’s my list in no particular order with pros/cons of each. So judge my list and maybe suggest something. I WILL DENY IT IF IT DOESN’T FOLLOW MY PARAMETERS!
Note: I make my car purchases in cash because I’m a baller, shot caller, 20 inch blades in the Impala. $10,000 is my max for the time being. That does not include maintenance, modification and upkeep.
1. Porsche Cayenne (3.2 V6, manual.)
+Looks great, would impress clients and ladies.
+Manual luxury suv.
-Not as tuneable as the others.
-Expensive repairs and service.
-Hard to find.
2. Audi A4 Avant/Sedan (B7, 3.2 V6, manual.)
+Great engine/exhaust note.
+I love the B7 Platform and A4s in general.
-Fairly small cabin space.
-It would be my third A4 in a row.
-Less tuneable than the 1.8t.
3. Bmw 128i
+Peppy and the styling reminds me of the 2002.
-Interior quality/space.
-Less doors than the others.
-Lots of computers that can go wrong.
4. Wild Card.

This is the only clear option.

$10,000 doesn’t include maintenance
oh man lol :] I think a Cheyenne wouldn’t be a good decision. Tavarishitus is no fun. The B7 and 128i should be ok but at $10,000... inspect it veeery good.
-owner of now 8!! German headaches

E90 330i/328i
+reliable
+tuneable
+relatively spacious
+impresses clients
-on the expensive end of the spectrum

WANT! But I really do want manual again.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:23 |

Nah, I don’t really like BMW that much besides the 1 series.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:23 |

Are 1 series 10k already?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:26 |

Okay, what about a loaded 2.0T Mark V Jetta?

E46 330i ZHP.

Other possibilities are maybe this if you need more doors:
http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/…
But to be honest, and looking at all the things you want, I’d get an S60R in manual. And buy classic german as a weekend car.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:30 |
|
I’ve got a nice BMW I can sell ya...
Also, I had no idea 128i’s were <= $10k these days.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:30 |

Exactly what I was thinking. Same goes for the Cayenne.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:30 |

E46 330i
+manual
+RWD
+dat inline 6
+Classic BMW driving dynamics
+ easily found in budget with money left over
+ fastest non-M 3 series
-older
-bit of an eh interior. Not terrible though
-potential meh reliability

High mileage ones are.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 15:46 |

Matches all of the criteria (except for being German), but here you go. Also has a clean one-owner CarFax. Reliability >>>>>>>>

MK5 GTI with high miles?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 16:09 |

Good luck finding a clean 128i for 10K, but there aren't many computers to break as long as you stay away from poodrive

It needs to be able to impress clients, be affordable, be German, manual, economical to an extent and tuneable.
Other than impressing clients our ‘08 B6 Passat Wagon meets all of those requirements. 2.0 TSI/CCTA turbo motor, modifiable/tunable, 6MT, economical (30+ MPG hwy, 24 average) and very practical! We just got an “amazing offer” in the mail from a local dealership for it for a whopping $4000 as a trade in for a brand new Nissan. I think it’s worth much more to keep for a while...
![]() 07/21/2015 at 16:43 |

it actually kind of resembles my list, which I will not declare since i’m 17, and will get a new asshole made since I’ve seen what happens when young people talk about getting nice cars on the internet...
jokes aside, it is kinda similar to my list; brands wise at least

A5
![]() 07/21/2015 at 18:42 |

You should buy a good car. Like a new CTS.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 18:58 |
|
Nope.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 18:58 |
|
They haven’t hit my level of depreciation yet!
![]() 07/21/2015 at 18:59 |
|
Meh, I don’t like the styling of that generation Passat though.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 18:59 |
|
I will avoid poodrive at all costs! I’ve found a few manual transmission equipped cars for under 10k though, not too many but they exist.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 18:59 |
|
Meh, don’t feel like timing belt changes.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:00 |

Hell nope.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:00 |

Nah, only one BMW on my list haha.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:00 |

Yup, neither did I until I looked!

Yup

![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:01 |

Horrible interiors on those things though, the S60R scares me more than the S8 in the reliability department for some reason.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:01 |
|
Have fun never being a baller then.
When's the rest of your Audi review coming?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:02 |
|
I’ll have fun with my lack of baller skills.
I have no idea, haha. I’ve been too lazy to write the rest.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:05 |
|
Yeah, I really don’t like the interior on these C-Classes, but it drives nicely and looks ok. I’d ask a few Oppos that own one, because I’d really get an S60R if I were in your shoes, other than that I say you should get V6 Cayenne, mainly because I’ve been looking at them for myself recently.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:06 |
|
Yup, I’ve been leaning towards all of them at once though! I really have no idea which one of them I like the most.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:08 |
|
You probably won’t understand what is written in the add, but I check this every 10 minutes to see if it is still there.
http://www.webmotors.com.br/comprar/audi/s…
Can you get one of these in your budget?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:10 |
|
now
that
is some depreciation.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:11 |
|
Damn, that’s clean. Even the rain tray is still there and that’s not very common.
I technically could get one for around $4,000, but they’re hard to work on and getting there as far as age goes. If I was to get an S4, it would probably be a B6.
But that one is really, really, really clean. I highly suggest that you go and buy that or an S8.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:13 |
|
It’s also an accident on it’s record, but under 100,000 miles and a pretty good color combo.
All in all, a pretty good deal. Here’s another one with just over 100k on it.

![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:16 |
|
I assumed the 4.2 V8 was more troublesome than the 2.7 Biturbo, but every time that changes. When I posted about the S8 people told me the engine and my wallet would go kaput, then I posted about the S6 and the German experts told me the V8 in the S6 is actually quite stout.
I might actually go look at it, I don’t have the money now, but that S4 is something I really want.
You never got the first gen S3 in the US right?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:19 |
|
The 2.7 Biturbo is still a good engine, but two turbos is troublesome. You’ve got to make sure that it’s been upgraded to the k04 turbos from the stock k03 turbos because if the stock turbos have been replaced, they will go bad.
The 4.2 V8 is less fiddly, the timing belt chain issue was WAY overplayed. There’s an 80% chance that you’ll never have to deal with it.
We did not even get the first generation S3 stateside.

Don’t roll your car now, Orlove.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:22 |

![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:26 |
|
Laaaammmeee.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:30 |
|
Ah, that’s bad, the first S3 is a great forgotten little car. Now that you mentioned two turbos, you could get an All-road. (My last comments have all been suggestions of cars that I really want, but am/was too scared/poor to buy now that I think about it)
The 128i is the only BMW you want, so no on a 540i, the sedans probably don’t do anything for you then, right?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:37 |

Mine was $18k
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:43 |

Year and mileage?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:44 |
|
The Allroad isn’t all that horrible, that horrible that is. I’ve seen one with 300k on it before.
None of the other BMW models do anything for me.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:47 |
|
I think you should consider it at least.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:48 |

Trust me, I have and still do from time to time.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:49 |

10 with 36k manual transmission, no sunroof and the sport package.

Tell us if you buy one, we could be the “Failed air-suspension brothers”, a new reality show on TLC.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:52 |

Ah, CPO I’m guessing.
I rode in one last week, felt like a solid car but the rear seat was still as hell. How’s the maintenance?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:52 |
|
Hahaha, that would be awesome.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:54 |
|
Nah got it from a Porsche Audi VW dealer in SC.
Maintenance is pretty damn easy and I’ve fit two adults in the back with no issues on a short trip
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:55 |
|
Not bad, does it make nice noises under intense acceleration?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:57 |

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
*Because the cars won’t move.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:57 |

With the performance muffler and a CAI it makes amazing noises all the time

Hahaha, new yard art!
![]() 07/21/2015 at 19:58 |

OEM sport exhaust right? The I6 seems like a good engine.

BMW Performance Muffler, OEM part just sold through the parts department

Later on that day the mechanics probably found some dried gum and paper clips stuck to the air filter, a vestige of his MacGyver years.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 20:15 |
|
Haha, watch the battery be dead.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 20:44 |
|
Ah, okay. I have to admit for the most part I don’t understand this. Unless it’s so radically different that it really stands out, like the Pontiac Aztek, I can’t really understand one style from another being that important of a factor. Unless you have a thing for a particular model, or are talking about a supercar of some kind, where styling DOES matter, then function comes first to me. I mean, don’t get me wrong I sort of understand what is stylish but it just can’t be that important when you get down to it.
What’s wrong with this?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 20:46 |

I just don’t like the way they look. Too many curves in the front and the headlights/taillights don’t look good to me.

4. Wild Card.
used Buick Verano or Regal?
based on Opel , so (might) qualify as German?
no idea if they meet $10K criteria though
not sure if manual either.
